Holidays in Thailand have never been more popular or more affordable than they are today.  The country’s rich combination of history, culture, nature, cuisine, and nightlife make it an appealing draw to foreigners looking for a change of pace.  Nightlife in Bangkok once had a sleazy and low image but has since re-invented itself into a diverse blend of clubs, bars, pubs, discotheques, and live shows.  Whether you have come on a honeymoon, with friends, or want to go stag, there are a number of options for night spots in Bangkok.

One of the best ways to start off a wild night is with a dinner cruise on the Chao Praya River.  These luxury cruisers pick up passengers in the early evening and sail out into the midst of the city.  These teakwood rice barges can make one feel like they have gone back in time — until they look up at the towering skyscrapers.  They include a six-course dinner and classical Thai music.

With your stomach full, you may be a bit parched.  There are bars and watering holes to fit any desire, but any visitor should start out at the Siam bars and get a glimpse of the sheer luxury.  These are within or along the five-star hotels on the main Patumwan intersection, featuring stellar neon and post-modern architecture on the one hand and cool, classical design on the other.  Check out the riverside pubs for jazz fusion and sublime cocktails.

 Late-night Shopping

Sometimes the best shopping is done after dark and Bangkok boasts an abundance of after-hours markets.  Many malls remain open until ten or eleven in the night, and the Patpong Night Market is truly a sight to behold, featuring everything from imitation designer clothing to electronics, purses, and ice cream.

Clubs in Bangkok are a blend of eclectic tastes.  You may have to check their club pages to ensure that you show up on the right night: one evening may be techno, one may be salsa, and one may be vibrant pink gay night.  DJs known around the world come to these clubs to spin their best beats.  Entrance fees range from 200 to 600 baht — the equivalent of five to fifteen pounds.  Few will close before two in the morning, so dance as much as you like before heading back to your hotel.  Styles range from hip-hop and house to reggae and electric jazz, enough melodies for anyone in the group to enjoy.

There are plenty of cabaret shows to attend, often free to enter however do note that the drinks are charged at a premium. Haggle with the servers for a discounted rate!
